Studying Species and Habitats for Conservation

NACRES work is dedicated to the improvement of the current biodiversity monitoring system in Georgia and especially for the protected areas, as well as filling in the knowledge gaps on various species and habitats, their conservation status, and distribution throughout the country. While having strong inhouse expertise in large mammals, pasture and forest biodiversity, we are proud to have a network of some of the best national experts who are invited to participate in our studies whenever needed. We identify, assess, and map key habitats, and study key native species as well as invasive species.

Our primary areas of focus are:

  • Studying selected habitats protected by Resolution No. 4 of the Bern Convention through assessment, identification, and mapping; the findings contribute to conservation planning as well as to national reports sent to the Bern Convention
  • Assessing the impact of invasive plants and animals on native ecosystems, primarily in protected areas, and proposing relevant management measures
  • Conservation research of key large mammals (such as Persian/Caucasus leopard, tur, bezoar goat, red deer, brown bear, wolf and lynx) using innovative methods and technologies, and utilising the findings to initiate conservation projects.
