While being a nature conservation organisation, we have also been involved in animal welfare issues that have relevance to wild populations. One such issue in Georgia is the illegal capture and keeping of bears. NACRES has conducted a number of nationwide assessments to register all captive bears throughout the country and help the authorities to address the problem. Currently we support, as much as possible, every genuine effort by animal welfare groups and individuals to address the issue of captive bears in Georgia by providing expertise as well as management and logistical assistance.
